 1) The First International Congress of the Romanian born Jewish People
             The necessity of having a museum of the Romanian Judaism is the title of an interview given to the publicist Doina Meizeles by the reserve General Moshe Nativ, the President of the New Unitarian Organization of the people born in Romania, published in the newspaper "Ultima ora" (Latest Hour). Referring to the project of bringing into being a museum of Jewish people born in Romania , Moshe Nativ declared among other things:"According to the estimations, the designed museum requires an investment of about 5-6 million $. We hope and we have promises in this way to get 2 million $ from  the Israeli Government,  the same sum of money  from the Romanian Government, and we can collect the rest from private donations". Another aim of the new Organization is the setting up in Israel , in 2003 or 2004, an international congress of Romanian born Jewish people.
  
 2) Poet born in Romania - awarded the President Prize
             Professor Bluma Finkelstein of the University Haifa - the French Poet born in Tecuci - was awarded November 13th 2002 the Israel President Prize for the foreign language Israeli writers on Wednesday. Among the other laureates  of this year there also is Gabriela Avigur -Rotem, emigrated from Argentina , whose family also has Romanian roots (grandfather of hers left Basserabia in 1899). The titles of books written by Bluma Finkelstein can be found on internet.
 
   3) The Great Chief Rabbi  Alexandru Safran - among the
        laureates of the International Romania Prizes 2002
 After seven years of existence, the channel TV Romania International established a special distinction -the International Romania Prizes. Among the laureates of the first edition of these awardings -besides the President Ion Iliescu , the Prime Minister Adrian Nastase, the Foreign Office Ministry Mircea Geoana, - there also is  His Eminence Alexandre Safran , the great Rabbi of Geneva , former Chief Rabbi of the Jewish communities  in Romania. And laureates of the 2002 edition of this Prize, there are Michael Guest, extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of the
 USA in Bucharest, Dr. Armin Hiller , extraordinary and plenipotentiary  Ambassador of Germany in Bucharest, Jesus Atienza Serna, extraordinary  and plenipotentiary Ambassador of Spain in Bucharest.
 
   4) More Romanian born people in the future Knesset?
             Among the persons who will candidate for a position on the panel representatives to Knesset of the Shinui party for the future general elections there also is Ing. Mariana Shmilovici in Haifa, born in Jassy. She will run for the positions 13-15 on the register which seems to contain  twenty candidates. In  1999 , at the last elections Shinui presented a panel  of about ten
 candidates , succeeding in getting six member mandates  and according to some opinions , the party could stand some chances in getting a greater number of positions in Knesset, in the future elections. Mariana Shmilovici works with the Computer Data Centre of Haifa University as a design master in the programme field.
 
   5) "Interneter" before its birth: It will be a girl!
             Some time ago , our newspaper referred to the opening of an unusual website which belongs to an unborn child. Its parents offered as a present a cyber space since the age of minus seven months (it had more seven months before getting to the 0 age accorded to the approximate estimations of the doctors).The Web brings up to date periodically and recently has enriched with
 new information:the baby will be a girl, now she weighs almost  two hundred grams and she is a star of a movie made through ultrasound. A fragment of the film of about one minute is introduced  in the web.
 
   6) The Great Lady of the Israeli Theatre  
             Lya Konig  - the Great Lady of the Israeli Theatre  - was celebrated last week by the Romanian Embassy. The occasion  - the actress celebrates four decade activity on the Israeli stage. On this occasion , dr. Mariana Stoica - the Ambassador offered a reception at her private residence in Herzlia.
 
   7) The Bucovinian  web site and its pages in five languages
             The Internet Station of the Bucovina born Jewish World Union has also inserted pages in the Idish language that is added to those in Romanian, English, German and Hebrew. The Pages in Idish evoke the poet Simele Schneider (Leibisch -Laysch), born in Cernauti (1923). The web contains articles regarding the history of Bucovina , it publishes articles dedicated to the Judaism in different Bucovinian towns and presents the biographies of some personalities born in Bucovina.The address of the Bucovinian web site is:htpp://www.bukovinajewsworldunion.org .
 
   8) The visit of the Rabbi of New York  in Romania
             The Rabbi of  New York , Rabbi Arthur Schneider - the President of  "The Appeal to Consciousness" Organization , one of the most efficient humanitarian Jewish Organization in USA, payed an official visit to Romania between the 3rd and 6th of November -2002. He was invited by "Al. I. Cuza" University  in Jassy, where he was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa. Arthur Schneider also met the Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase  and other religious and political personalities. The Rabbi of New York was also invited to the Round Table on "The World Religious after September 11, 2001 -the stability factor or generator of extremist actions."
             Rabbi Arthur Schneider  belongs to a family originated in Romania, his mother beeing born in Ramnicu Sarat. It was in the Jewish cemetery in Jassy that he also visited the grave of his grandfather, former Rabbi of Jassy.
 
   9) Two Laureates of "Dan David 2002  Prize"
        have received  also the Nobel Prize

             Professors Sydney Brenner and John Sulston  - two of the four Laureates of the first edition of the Dan David Prize, May 2002 - were also awarded the Nobel Prize this autumn!This confirms that the selection system of the Dan David Prize candidates and the choosing of the Laureates is based on very rigorous criteria , comparable to those used by the Nobel Foundation and enhances  the prestige of the new distinction created by Dan David  - an Israelite multi-billionaire born in Romania and who lives in Italy.
             Dan David has decided to award yearly three Prizes of one million $each one for interdisciplinary studies crossing the traditional frontiers of the science. The criteria to select the candidates and appoint the laureates are worked out in the University of Tel Aviv, which was given an amount of 100 million $to be managed.

   10) The literary evening in ... safety
             The Cultural Society in Haifa moved to Carmiel on November 6, as a guest of HOR Organization in the town. In the hall inside the refuge of Calanit Hotel in Carmiel , where the seat of HOR, the audience was presented stories in the volumes "Theviolin with the charmed bow" by Francisca Stoleru and "Reach for the day to come" by  Madeleine Davidsohn, read the authors  themselves. On this occasion the women writers were the object of a "literary trial" with the  participation of the painter Liana Saxone - Horodi, of the journalist Bitti Caragiale and of Lady Elvira Shefer.
 
 11) "My 88th State of Mind"
             The American Societaty "International Library of Poetry" organised a Poetry Prize competition , that were to be published in an anthology. The Poem "My 88th State of Mind" (the 88th State of Mind) was awarded and selected to be published in the anthology, poem writtten by our New York assistant Max Solomon - when he was obviously 88 years old. The poem was awarded a prize -in the way the jury informed - "for your unique perspective and artistical  vision".
             As the writer Max Solomon in a great creative effervescence he is one of the most dynamic and interesting participants in two of the New York literary circles where he reads poetry and fiction in English , that he was able to really learn after his age of 70.
 
 12) The Palty 2002 Prizes Laureates
             It was in Tel Aviv that took place the festivity of awarding the Nicu Palty 2002 Prizes. The Laureates of these prizes , instituted to the memory of the journalist and editor Nicu Palty, are:
     - ing. Rosalia Bines -for her works in the telecommunication domain
     - dr. Paul Schweiger - for his publicistic activity
     - Carol Isac- for his publicistic activity
     - Shaul Carmel - for his poetical activity
             The awarding Board consisted of dr. Shlomo Leibovici Lais - the President of the World Cultural Acmeor Association for the people born in Romania, ing. Mioara Cohen- member in Acmeor leading and the writer Sonia Palty - on behalf of family. Each laureat got 1000 US $.
 
 13) International Poetry Congress in Jassy
             Three Israeli writers:the poet Ernesto Kahan - born in Argentina , activist in an international pacifist organization  who was awarded  the peace Nobel Prize, Sara Ditza Kourtchy - professor of poliaesthetics and dr. Madeleine (Mada) Davidsohn took part in event organised in Jassy, Romania. The congress took place under the auspices of the World Arts and Culture Academy , organization registered in USA.
             An English anthology comprising the works of 39 foreign poets was published . As much as eleven Israel poets are published in this anthology, we give their names in alphabetical order:Ada Aharoni, Luiza Carol, Madeleine Davidsohn , Ernesto Kahan, Felicia KahnZiskin, Adelina Klein, Sara Ditza Kourtchy, Edith Hellen Papert, Gustava Stending - Lindberg, Shifra Weinstok- Eshkol.    
             It is also published a poem written by the lawyer Valentin Saxone in a Romanian communist  prison a long time ago. The poem was sent to Jassy by the poet's daughter Liana Saxone - Horodi who is a painter.
 
 14) In the final selection for the "National Jewish
       Book Award" 2001-2002 Prize

             The Novel "The Oasis of the Romanian writer Petru Popescu - living in USA -is among the five books that were chosen in the final election for the American prestigious literary Prize "National Jewish Book Award" 2001-2002. The author - shows the magazine "Publishers Weekly"- rewrites in the Holocaust time of his parents -in-law Mirek Friedman and Blanka Davidovich, the way their love story started during the second World War, in an extermination camp (Dachau 3b) and the way they got married after the second World War .Chronicles and reviews of "Oasis" as well as of other novels written by Petru Popescu  may be found on internet, amomg others in the site of Amazon network.
  
 15) Memories from shtetl Mihaileni on Internet
             On Friday there was placed on Internet the book "My dear little village of Mihaileni, the second volume followed "Russian short stories" by dr. Zisu Lebel of Haifa. The author evoked other characters and events that took place in the small Jewish town where he was born as well as of Russia, where he arrived during the war. The book also comprises a map of Mihailenilor six decades ago, a list containing the names of the small town's inhabitants -Jewish and Nojewish people-as well as opinions on the book in Romanian , published in the Israeli newspapers. In the same website one can read the English translation of the first volume.
