  1. The Rabbi Alexandru Safran came back home from the hospital
            Recently, in our newsletter there has been showen up the news –took over from a Bucharest newspaper –that  the Romanian President Ion Iliescu present in Switzerland visited at the hospital the Rabbi Chief Alexandru Safran of Geneva from Rabbi chief of the Israeli commnuties in Romania, ing. Baruch Tercatin, member of Acmeor executive committee, called up Geneva and gladly found out that Rabbi Safran felt much better and he came back home.
             We also wish the Rabbi Chief of Geneva good health!

  2. A letter from the Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netaniahu
            Joseph Rosen, the author of the book “ Why A Jewish Man” got a letter from the former Prime Minister Benjamin Netaniahu who thanked him  for the copy he had sent him.Please accept my warm congratulations on the occasion of the publication in Hebrew language of your book “Why A Jewish Man?”, it is said in the letter of the former Prime Minister.As you has chosen to pin your faith to the Israeli people –and to Eretz Israel- you are considered to be a model of the Zionist Idea. In this difficult period when the Israel State faces some special dangers and difficult provocations , a faith as yours is necessary for our people. I hope  this book of yours entitled “Why A Jewish Man?” should find  the proper place in the herats of many people in our country.

  3. The Exhibition “The Feast of the Wedding with the Romanians in Haifa”
            It is in Haifa that has been opened the exhibition”The Feast of the Wedding with the Romanians” organised by the Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest, under the auspices of the Romanian Embassy in Israel.
            During the festivity there spoke dr.Valeria Mariana Stoica, the Romainan Ambassador , the deputy Colette Avital, Aviva Danker-a member of the family that owns the galleries, Haia Shir-the manager of the gallery, Zvika Israeli-the President of the Artist Association in Haifa and North, Shmuel Reinish-the President of the Haifa branch of HOR.
            The Exhibition brings about a meeting of all those fond of the traditional culture in Israel with valuable things of the Romanian Popular Art, dedicated to the nuptial ceremony, one of the most important moments in the man’s life. Liana Saxone Horodi , the artist in Haifa is also present in the exhibition, with wood works inspired by the Romanian folk.
            The Exhibition is lodged in the Castra Galleries in the Exhibitional Complex in 7 Filman Street , opposite the Congress Hall and it is open by November 21.

  4. Romantic Memories of an Israeli Diplomat
            Yesterday, present in a short visit to Ploiesti, the Israeli Ambassador to Romania, Sandu Mazor, gladly remembered those times  when he had lived in “the Chestnut town”, writes the  Thursday issue of “Evenimentul Zilei” newspaper. The Excellency made known to the Prahovenian Press that he had very pleasant memories connected to Ploiesti , especiallly those regarding the most important event in his personal life- his meeting in the Chestnut Avenue the one who was to become his wife.
 Sandu Mazor left Ploiesti in 1964, when he took up his residence in Israel. The only disappointment of the Ambassador was that he couldn’t find again either the street or the house in which he had spent his childhood.
            The news was announced by “Evenimentul Zilei” in Bucharest, reported  by Mrs. Irina Abramovici in Haifa.

  5. “Honour to New York”
            “Honour to New York” is the name of the new exhibition which will be inaugurated by the photograph artist Armand Beraru , in Haifa on Saturday , November 10. The exhibition will contain photos taken by the author on the occasion of his visit made before the assaults on September 11-2001. The varnishing will take place at the Cultural Center  , in Ramot Sapir District 22 Goth Lewin Street. The exhibition is organised under the auspicies of Haifa’s Townhall. The American Consular Agent in Haifa will also take the floor at the exhibition.

  6. The Octogenarian-Iosef N. Rudel!
            The writer and journalist Iosef N. Rudel , the chief editor of the German magazine “Die Stimme”(The Voice) has reached the age of 80 on October 26.
 In Romania – where he published in the Romanian language , using the pen –name of Radu Nor-Rudel published science-fiction books. He also wrote novels , stories, plays. In Israel hs volume “Sweet Almonds, Bitter Currants” , the first work of a cycle comprising some Israeli images . He has published 36 books in Romania and Israel.
 Iosef Rudel is the President of the Association of the German Language Writers (where are also registered un-Israelite writers) and is a member of the Leading Board of the World Organisation of the Jewish People from Bucovina. He is the member of the Association of the Austrian Writers , member of the Union of the Romanian Writers (from where he had been excluded when he had gone to Israel), member of the Pen Club. He was the President of the Association of the Romanian Language Israeli Writers between 1976-1978.
            As a token of homage and valuing of his activities and for the way in which he publishes “Die Stimme” magazine- publication that has brought near the Bucovinian Jewish People all over the world- the World Organization of Jewish people from Bucovina registeredin the Gold book of the Organization Keren Kaiemet(this latest information has been given to us by the advocate Itzhak Artzi, the President of OMEB)

  7. The first performance of the Canadian Documentary “Struma”
            In a message received from the USA, David Stoliar has announced us that the first performance of the documentary “Struma”, made by the Canadian movie-maker Simba Iacubovici , will take place in Toronto on November 13-2001.Stoliar is the only survivor of the boat”Struma” sunk in the Black Sea waters near the Turkish Sea shores, on February 1942. On board the ship there were 769 Jewish people heading for mandatarial Palestina and whom the British Authorities didn’t give any permission to enter. After about two months spent in Ankara , the boat was tugged in the international waters  and sunk by a Soviet submarine.

  8. For the first time – great grandfathers
            The friends congratulated Dita and Yula Weiner on the occasion of Tom Weiner’s birth in Ierusalem, on October 3-2001, their first great-greatson, Ariela and Rafi Weiner’s grandson, the son of Yahaloma and Gal Weiner, Yula Weiner is the Vice-president of the Organisation “Ithaidut Olei Bucovina”.

  9. The Farkas Gallery
            The web-site of the Farkas Gallery also exhibits several Jewish painters born in Romania. Some of them , less known is David Jean (born in 1908 , died in Israel in 1993), who emigrated in 1942 and was deported on the Cypres Island by the English Authorities in Palestina. He succeded in arriving in the country and joined the British Army. Then after the proclamation of the State  independence he was member of the Israeli Military Marine. As a painter he worked in different millieus – graphic in Indian ink , oil painting , decorative works , posters , stamps and coins, etc. He sporadically showed up with the New Horizon group and he was for figurative painting.
 Among the artists evoked by Farkas there was also Amedeo Modigliani, born in a Jewish family of Italian merchants. In 1906 Modigliani moved to France. It was in Paris that he met the Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi whose works impressed him and whose advice made him study the African sculpture. 10. Hebrew Poetry  Evening  in Bucharest
             A correspondence from Maier Viorel:
             A Hebrew Poetry Evening  took place in Bucharest  on Friday. On this occasion , the actors Roxana  Gutman and Rudi Rozenfeld of the Jewish Theatre State  recited twenty two  poems of 22 Israeli poets (two of them-Dan Paghis  and Simon Haran – are born in Romania ). The poems belong to the volume “On the Sky Edge”- contemporary  Hebrew poets –Cartea Romaneasca Publishing House , 1992-the authology  and translation made by our dear departed Sebastian Costin.

11. “My Mirrors and I”
            The artist Lucia Zilberman , the poet Luiza Carol’s daughter, has opened in Internet  a remarcable  web-site  entitled “My Mirrors and I”. The web contains:multimedia, design and commercial advertisments. The visitors  are welcomed by serene colours  and guided by an... animated  butterfly . 12. Bombastic Numbers
            In the Magazine “Informatia” published in Carmiel,  I. Schaier, the chief editor  of the Publication , signes an article that critizes  the tendency  of presenting inexact data regarding the people born in Romania . Some leaders of the HOR Organisation maintain that there are in Israel 400.000 Romanian born. Or , specifies the author  of the article , in the Statistical Year Book  of Israel in 1995  it is showen that  on December 31-1994 – there lived in Israel  137.500 Romanian born people. In Carmiel , I. Schaier writes , there  lived once 4000 Immigrants from Romania  while nowadays  there live about 1800 , but only 300 “have home-sicknesses and  the nostalgies of the Romanian  language and take  part in the HOR activities”. Most of the people born in Romania , it’s showen  in the article , have perfectly joined the Israeli Societaty and have no connection  with HOR or with other Organisations of ours...”The article is entitled “Let’s be realistic”.

13. The Senator Vadim removed from the Parliamentary Delegation  that will visit Asia
 The Senator Corneliu Vadim Tudor , the President of Romania Mare Party  and the Director of the Anti-Semitic Magazine “Romania Mare”, won’t belong anymore to the Parliamentary  delegation  invited to visit  the Philipines, Japain and South Korea. A decision like this was taken by Nicolae Vacaroiu , the President of the Senate, the leader of the delegation –at the parliamentary  group’s  request of the Liberal National
Party  of the Democratic Party  and of the Democratic Union  of the Hungarians  in Romania.
 After Corneliu Vadim Tudor  had been nominated  by PRM as a member of the Delegation, the three parliamentary  groups announced that they would boycott the tour if Vadim were  the member of the Delegation . In a letter addressed the President of the Senate  , the three parliamentary  groups stated that the Senator Vadim Tudor’s atttitude wasn’t able to confer him the appropriate  moral profile  so that  he could  belong to a Delegation  which represented  the Senate. The magazine “Romania Mare”, directed by the Senator , has been promoting an anti-Jewish politic for about ten years.(AR Press Agents)

14. “Pleasant Surprises”
 In an chronicle dedicated to the classical music cd produced in our country , the Wednesday  Jerusalem Post Newspaper eulogized the records made by the”Israel Symphony Orchestra”, whose artistic manager is the conductor Mendi Rodan. The disc contains the concert given on October26 –2000 “Love in Music”-comprising love scenes from Berlioz’s “Romeo and Juliet”, “Don Juan” by Richard Strauss, performances of the violonist Silvia Marcovici in a concert by Mendelssohn. The Newspaper also eulogizes a cd made by “Haifa Symphony Orchestra” whoseartistic director is the cunductor Christian Mandeal from Romania. The title  of the article :”Pleasant surprises  with the local Orchestras”.
