            Laureat al Premiului Israel 1998, sectia "Gandire iudaica"
            Prof. Idel, 51 ani, s-a nascut in Romania si a imimigrat in 1963.El este seful Departamentului de gandire iudaica de la Hebrew University din Ierusalim. In comunicatul Ministerlui Educatiei care anunta premierea se arata ca distinctia este acordata pentru contributia sa la cercetarea Kabalei. domeniu in care ofera o "abordare noua si revolutionara" a subiectului.

Zwi Yavetz Zwi Yavets
Professor Zvi Yavetz has a long and distinguished scholarly career. He is recognized internationally as a brilliant lecturer and writer; and his participation in the Jewish Studies Program at Queens College is always greatly anticipated.
Professor Yavetz received his Degrees in History, Classics and Sociology from Hebrew University, Jerusalem. M.A. - 1950, Pa.D. - 1956); his Postdoctoral Studies were conducted at the University of London and Lund, Sweden. (1960).

Prof. Moshe Gil

Prof. Moshe Gil
, Prof. Emeritus of the Chaim Rosenberg School of Jewish Studies and incumbent of the Joseph and Ceil Mazer Chair in the History of the Jews in Muslim Lands, was awarded the Israel Prize for Research in the Humanities in the category of the land of Israel and its people during the early Moslem Period. The Prize is being awarded to him for his monumental work in the study of 846 documents and letters of the Geniza in Cairo and for his contribution to research of the history of the Jews of Babylon, Persia and Italy and their place in the economy of the early middle ages.

Prof. Myriam Yardeni of the Dept. of General History is the second University of Haifa faculty
member to be awarded the State of Israel’s highest accolade, the Israel Prize. She will receive the prize for research in general history. The awards are formally presented in a special Independence Day ceremony. Yardeni was cited for her contribution to French historiography and the history of political thought in France and her in-depth research on French Jewry and French-Jewish relations from the 16th-18th centuries. Her innovative methodology in dealing with the history of the Huguenots and their relations with the Jews and Judaism has won her international acclaim.
