             The “Mimi and Itzhak Artzi Library” was inaugurated on Monday, June  21th, 2004, in the office of the "World   Organisation of Bukovinian Jews”. The Library was created in the memory of the late chairman of the organization, lawyer Itzhak Artzi.
            The Library contains several hundreds of books  written by Bukovinian authors or on Bukovinian themes in Romanian, German, Hebrew, Yidish, English and French.

Joseph Schmid Street
                  in Tel Aviv?

        Last month, The World Union of Jews Born in Bukovina
addressed the Major of Tel Aviv with the request to give the name "Joseph Schmidt" to one of the streets in the town Joseph Schmidt was one of the world's greatest tenors. He was born in Davideni, Bukovina, in 1904 and spent his childhood in Tchernovitz. He could speak Romanian, German, Yidish and Hebrew. He had a brilliant career in different cities of the world,but this career was stopped by the rise of the Nazi movement
   In 1942, he died in a refugee camp in Switzerland. His death wadue to the fact that he could not treat his diseases. He died in the very country whose government had refused his immigration petition
