Norman Manea

Norman Manea - laureat al Premiului Nonino
         Cunoscutul scriitor Norman Manea a primit Premiul Nonino 2002, informeaza revista bucuresteana
"22".
             Norman Manea, autor de romane, proza scurta, eseuri, locuieste din 1986 in Statele Unite. S-a nascut
in Bucovina, Romania; este supravietuitor al Holocaustului, a lucrat ca inginer pana in anul 1974, cand a inceput
sa se consacre scrisului. Printre cartile sale se afla romanele Captivi - 1970, Primele porti - 1975, Anii de
ucenicie ai lui August Prostul - 1979, Octombrie, ora 8 - 1992, Pe contur (Premiul Uniunii Scriitorilor din
Romania, retras ulterior din ordinul autoritatilor comuniste), Despre clovni - 1992 (volum care a primit Premiul
National al Statelor Unite pentru carte evreiasca,  Plicul negru - 1986, 1995. Cartile sale au fost traduse in mai
mult de zece limbi. Cartile autorului, se spune intr-un comentariu despre opera sa, gasit in Internet, sunt
preocupate de trauma Holocaustului. de viata zilnica intr-un stat totalitar si de exil. Unii critici il descriu ca pe un
descendent literar al lui Kafka.
            Intr-o scrisoare pe care ne-a trimis-o de curand, Norman Manea s-a referit si la newsletterul "Buna
dimineata, Israel!": ...setul de stiri - totdeauna interesant, totdeauna noi pentru mine".

   consistent? ?i totodat? atât de policrom? de fapte, senza?ii, reflec?ii
   ?i reflect?ri cum se întâlne?te de regul? în proza lui Norman Manea.
   Prozatorul are o puternic? obsesie a concretului sufletesc,
   desf?când în mii de fire o situa?ie, o întâmplare abia schi?at?, un
   gest consumat rapid, o replic? doar bolborosit? ?i ref?când apoi

                                                 Few writers can give the written page such a consistent texture,
                                                 and at the same time so polychrome, so coloured with facts,
                                                 sensations, reflections and mirrored images, as Norman Manea
                                                 does in his prose. The writer is deeply obsessed with unravelling
                                                 into a thousand threads a situation, a barely sketched incident, a
                                                 rapidly consumed gesture, a mumbled reply and then reweaving

Norman Manea

Born in Bukovina, Romania, in 1936, Mr. Manea is a survivor of the concentration camps who
worked in Romania as an engineer until 1974, when he devoted himself full-time to writing. He left
Romania in 1986 and now teaches at Bard College in New York. His work includes October;
Eight O’Clock and On Clowns: The Dictator and the Artist; and Compulsary Happiness, a
collection of four novellas. In April 1993, Manea was awarded a National Jewish Book Award for
On Clowns. He has won numerous awards and prizes including a Guggenheim and MacArthur
Foundation Fellowships.

His fiction and essays have been translated into more than ten languages. The author’s writing is
preoccupied with the trauma of the Holocaust, with daily life in a totalitarian state, and with exile.
His work has been compared to Bruno Schulz and Robert Musil, and has been described by some
critics as a literary descendant of Kafka.
